The guardian acts in the best interest of the individual, ensuring their well-being.

Their responsibilities include handling the ward’s financial matters, ensuring the proper management of assets, and making decisions that require court approval to prevent abuse of power. This role is crucial for protecting the financial interests of minors, incapacitated adults, or individuals who cannot manage their own finances.

a voluntary court action taken by a person who wants assistance with their assets from another person (i.e. bill paying, investing, etc.). However, unlike a person acting under a Power of Attorney, a conservator is required by state statute to file an accounting with the court annually.

Adult Protective Services (APS) is….

a social service program that investigates allegations of abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation of vulnerable adults. APS aims to protect the safety, independence, and  quality of life for adults who are unable to protect themselves due to a physical or mental impairment. APS provides protective and social services to victims and coordinates with other state and local government entities and community-based organizations.
